    Position Overview

    The Director, Auto Underwriting and Portfolio Management, Commercial Insurance will deliver strategic portfolio management of the Auto Portfolio across the Commercial Business. In partnership with Senior Underwriting Leadership and the Regions, this will include continual assessment of performance of the portfolio against expectations and the development of strategic and tactical initiatives to drive the overall portfolio ambition. The assessment of actual and expected portfolio performance is pivotal to the role, including the identification and reporting of internal/external trends and the tracking and monitoring of remedial action plans.

    What You Will Achieve In This Role
    Delivery of the Operation Plan for Commercial Auto with a particular emphasis on the Underwriting result
    Lead the development and implementation of underwriting strategies and policies in line with Commercial business goals
    Partner with Business Leaders and the Regions to define and develop Auto product and proposition enhancements that optimize business opportunities across Canada and Group
    Execute on the underwriting strategy (including product and pricing) which provides market and performance consistency for Commercial’s customer base, distribution channel and key stakeholders
    Direct the development and implementation of robust Auto pricing plans in line with Policy
    Develop clear strategies and plans for the management and control of key portfolio risk exposures
    Manage and monitor the Auto control environment to enable compliance with Group, legal and regulatory requirements
    Ensure timely and effective execution of portfolio action plans related to rate adequacy and loss ratio performance
    Identify, coordinate and lead capability improvement initiatives across the portfolio to enable delivery of the portfolio ambition
    Establish a positive and motivating leadership profile within the division and with its key stakeholders
    Develop and implement tools, practices and processes to drive portfolio management capabilities
    What You Bring To This Role
    Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline
    Minimum 10 years demonstrated, relevant industry experience
    Detailed knowledge of commercial underwriting
    Professional qualification in a relevant technical discipline (e.g. CIP, FCIP, ACII, CI, CRM or similar)
    Fluent with the guidelines and philosophies of RSA in the delivery of products and services to our customers
    Fluent with technical licensing and audit requirements.
    Knowledgeable of industry legislation and regulatory requirements and ability to translate that into protocols/ requirements within RSA.
    Leadership experience of technical specialists.
    High capacity for understanding and managing multiple and complex issues at the same time
    Disciplined approach to underwriting large, complex, technical risks built on having first-hand experience with these risks and exposures.
    Excellent PC Skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
